چکیده

The Leibler theory [L. Leibler, Macromolecules 13 1602 (1980)] for mi-crophase separation in AB block copolymer melts is generalized for systems with arbitrary topology of molecules. A diagrammatic technique for calculation of the monomeric correlation functions is developed. The free energies of various mesophases are calculated within the second-harmonic approximation. Model highly-branched tree-like structures are considered as an example and their phase diagrams are obtained. The topology of molecules is found to influence the spinodal temperature and asymmetry of the phase diagrams, but not the types of phases and their order. We suggest that all model AB block-copolymer systems will exhibit the typical phase behaviour.

Lifshitz points in blends of AB and BC diblock copolymers

– We consider microand macro-phase separation in blends of AB and BC flexible diblock copolymers. We show that, depending on architecture, a number of phase diagram topologies are possible. Microphase separation or macrophase separation can occur, and there are a variety of possible Lifshitz points. Because of the rich parameter space, Lifshitz points of multiple order are possible. We demonstr...

Hydrodynamic self-consistent field theory for inhomogeneous polymer melts.

We introduce a mesoscale technique for simulating the structure and rheology of block-copolymer melts and blends in hydrodynamic flows. The technique couples dynamic self-consistent field theory with continuum hydrodynamics and flow penalization to simulate polymeric fluid flows in channels of arbitrary geometry. We demonstrate the method by studying phase separation of an ABC triblock copolyme...

Self-assembly in block polyelectrolytes.

The self-consistent field theory (SCFT) complemented with the Poisson-Boltzmann equation is employed to explore self-assembly of polyelectrolyte copolymers composed of charged blocks A and neutral blocks B. We have extended SCFT to dissociating triblock copolymers and demonstrated our approach on three characteristic examples: (1) diblock copolymer (AB) melt, (2) symmetric triblock copolymer (A...

Polydispersity-induced macrophase separation in diblock copolymer melts.

The effect of A-block polydispersity on the phase behavior of AB-diblock copolymer melts is examined using a complete self-consistent field theory treatment that allows for fractionation of the parent molecular-weight distribution. In addition to observing the established shift in phase boundaries, we find the emergence of significant two-phase coexistence regions causing, for instance, the dis...

Phase Behavior of Polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) Copolymers in a Selective Ionic Liquid Solvent

The phase behavior of poly(styrene-block-2-vinylpyridine) copolymer solutions in an imidazolium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonamide ([Im][TFSI]) ionic liquid has been studied using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and optical transmission characterization. Through scaling analysis of SAXS data, we demonstrate that the [Im][TFSI] ionic liquid behaves as a selective solvent toward one of the bloc...
